Lamaia are efecte anti-cancerigene puternice asupra organismului, acestea fiind deja dovedite cu ajutorul numeroaselor cercetari stiintifice. In plus, are un efect de vindecare foarte puternic asupra chisturilor si asupra tumorilor.

How To Train Your Brain To Stop Worrying About The Things You Can’t Control

A lot of us don’t realize, but anxiety is something everyone experiences. Obviously, some experience it more severely than others, but it’s quite common. According to WebMD, about 40 million Americans live with an anxiety disorder, which is more than the occasional worry or fear.

To be more specific, an anxiety disorder can range from a generalized anxiety disorder to a panic disorder, according to the site. If you have one of these and have tried medication and seeing professionals, but nothing seems to work, don’t worry. It takes a lot of conscious effort to get to a healthy state of mind. You’ll get there!

Believe it or not, there are certain exercises that you can do to train your brain to stop worrying about things that you simply can’t control. There are various strategies that can help you to not only manage but potentially reduce as a whole.

Understanding anxiety. There are a lot of professional and medical opinions on whether or not anxiety is the result of a chemical imbalance. Though that may be part of the problem, your surroundings also play a major role in how you feel. According to Calm Clinic, when you feel anxious about things, it could be logical, it could be emotional or it could be just the way your brain responds to its natural chemical processes.

Pixabay

Observe what your body and mind react to. Calm Clinic recommends that you get in tune with yourself and your mind, and figure out why your body is reacting to threats the way it does. This can help you develop a way to stop anxiety from escalating because you’ll become more mindful of yourself and your surroundings. It could work for some more than others!

Pixabay
Calm Clinic recommends that if you assume that a chemical imbalance is what causes your anxiety, regardless of what treatment you get, you still need to learn coping tools that can help overcome your anxiety. If you learn how to control the extent that anxiety affects you, you’d make a positive change to your chemical imbalance.

Pixabay
Challenge difficult thoughts. The Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health & Addiction lists the second step that you can do to train your brain to stop worrying about things that you simply can’t control. That is, challenging the thoughts that you’re worried about. The site notes that sometimes it helps to ask a friend or a family member’s opinion about the situation. So for example, if you have anxiety about someone talking negatively about you, ask the person about it first before you start panicking about it.

Pixabay
The reality is is that there’s no point in panicking about something that might not even exist in the first place. Then, if the situation does in fact exist, the next thing that might help is to see how others would react to it if they were in your shoes. The site notes that even imagining how most people would react to a worrying thought will help you come up with a more fair and realistic way of thinking!

Pixabay
Train your brain. Verywell Mind says that when you find yourself in a stressful situation, you have to train your brain into doing calm thinking. There’s no way that it’ll happen on its own. Just like giving advice to your friends when they are worrying about things, you have to tell yourself how to look at the situation in a positive way. Essentially, if excessive worrying occurs, talk back to it.

Pixabay

Of course, this is easier said than done. I mean, if there have been so many times that your mind has been distorted, it’s hard to see the truth. I get it. But you can’t feed into the worrying thoughts. That’ll just make it worse. For example, if you ask yourself “what if I keep getting worse?” or “What if she tells this person everything I just told her”, then you are feeding into the anxiety. Try to keep away from that and instead feed your brain with more realistic thoughts.

Pixabay
I get that all this stuff may be easier said than done, and no one truly understands the anxiety that you go through unless they are in your shoes. But the reality is is that you can take all the medication in the world to help your anxiety, which of course works, but trying some of these coping skills can help you in the long run.

One Glass Of This Could Help You Empty Out Waste From Your Colon

The human colon is an important part of the body. An article on PubMed explains that the function of the colon includes the conservation of water and electrolytes as well as the controlled evacuation of feces. Extensive research has shown that the health of your colon can have a direct impact on your body’s overall metabolism. With that said, an unhealthy colon can lead to serious conditions such as colon cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosis. They estimate that for 2018, there will be 97,220 new cases of colon cancer. Finding the healthiest solutions to clean out your colon can be tough, but there is one home remedy that may be able to help.

Providr

Before I get into the remedy, I wanted to add that unhealthy diets and lifestyle choices can contribute to unhealthy colons and colon cancer. An online Cleveland Clinic cancer risk assessment was conducted which included over 27,000 responses, Medical Daily reported. The results were that less than 10% of the participants reported eating the daily recommended amount of fruit, vegetables, and grains, which are all essential to help clean out your colon.

The remedy that can help clean out your colon consists of four ingredients: one lemon, two tablespoons of Aloe Gel, one liter of water, and honey. According to Dr. Edward Group lll, who is the founder of the Global Healing Center, explains that lemons are a great choice for helping with digestion. He explains that the colon is the final part of the digestion process, and because lemons contain pectin, which is a type of fiber that makes up the cell wall of many types of fruits, they are very beneficial to a proper digestion and healthy colon. The pectin slows down the speed of food that leaves the stomach and improves how it’s broken down, Dr. Group added.

Aloe Gel. This gel contains barbaloin, which is a C-glucoside of aloe-emodin anthrone and is found in the plant Aloe Vera. The University of Rochester Medical Center explains that Aloe Vera has been used for many years in medicine. It is mostly known for its healing abilities on cuts and burns, but they also mention that it can also be used as a laxative. A healthy colon means that you have regular bowel movements, and because Aloe Vera contains barbaloin, the anthraquinones (organic compounds) can help stimulate your bowel movements and increase its tone.

Honey. Honey is considered one of the best sources for weight loss; and according to Livestrong, many people who do a colon cleanse often lose weight as well because they are able to clear out the waste from their intestines. A study from a 2011 issue of Nutrition Research touched bases on the effects of honey and sugar on obesity in rats and they found that the rats who were fed honey ate less and gained less weight. In addition, according to a 2010 study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, researchers compared the effects of honey and sugar in women. They found that honey had less of an effect on the blood sugar levels. If your blood glucose levels are high, the body is unable to convert the food you eat into energy, which can cause overeating and excess amounts of toxins which, in turn, can cause constipation and an unhealthy colon.

showcake/shutterstock.com

According to Lonny Horowitz, a board-certified bariatrician practicing in the Atlanta area, it’s like cleaning up a construction site. “The toxins are the unused junk that’s leftover, and our bodies remove this waste through sweat, urine, and stool,” reported USA News. Horowitz adds that if your body does not have enough fluids, the kidneys will not work efficiently, and all the toxins become more concentrated and difficult to force out. This can have a negative effect on the body’s bowel functions. A healthy colon needs regular bowel movements so it can remove waste and not leave any excess toxins, Horowitz says.

How to prepare it. You’ve been very patient, and now I’m going to tell you how to make this remedy. First, you’ll want to squeeze the lemon in a bowl, then add the two tablespoons of fresh Aloe Vera and mix it well. Once you’ve thoroughly mixed the two together, add the one liter of water and mix everything in a blender. After you’ve blended everything together, add a bit of honey to sweeten the mix. To help clean out your colon, take a glass of this first thing in the morning, and if you want to speed up the process, 30 minutes before each main meal.

This Chart Shows You When You Should Put Your Kids To Bed

If you have kids, then you know that it can be difficult to know when the appropriate time to put them to bed is. Put your kids to bed too early and you risk them being hyper and never getting to sleep, put them to bed late and they’ll be grumpy in the morning and barely able to make it through the day.

Shutterstock/Phovoir

The problem is amplified if you are a working parent and want to maximize the amount of time that you get to spend with your kids. Well, we’re here to tell you that you’re not alone in this dilemma. In fact, Wilson Elementary School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, recognized that parents were struggling with this very conundrum and provided a little chart in order to help them out.

The chart is based on the age and the time that the child needs to be up at. For instance, say you have a 6-year-old that has to be awake at 6:30 a.m., the chart will tell you that he has to be asleep by 7:30 p.m. However an 11-year-old who has to be up at 6:30 a.m. is able to stay up until 8:45 p.m.

The chart follows the American Academy of Pediatrics’ sleep recommendations for kids. According to their guidelines, kids aged 3-5 should be getting 10-13 hours of sleep per day whereas kids aged 6-12 are fine with 9-12 hours of sleep per day.

Facebook/Wilson Elementary

As of now, the chart has 448K shares on Facebook, and for good reason. Getting an adequate amount of sleep per day is vital to the proper development and good health for the whole family. In fact, a recent study conducted by Serene Yoong (Ph.D.) from Hunter New England Population Wallsend in New South Wales, Australia found that young children who do not have a consistent sleep schedule are nearly twice as likely to experience obesity by age 11 than those with set bedtimes.

Shutterstock/ESB Professional

Another study conducted by Dr. Jon Quach of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and The University of Melbourne found that children who are early-to-sleep have a better health-related quality of life, and their mothers have improved mental health as compared with children who are late-to-sleep.

Furthermore in an Australian Sleep Association Conference, Sleep Down Under 2015, recent research was examined which suggests that putting your kids to bed before 8:30 p.m. can help the whole family be better rested and live more balanced lives.

This Is What Happens When You Place An Ice Cube At This Point On Your Head

The human body has a completely unique place.

If you regularly put ice on it, the body begins to rejuvenate, many diseases disappear, and you’ll be healthy, cheerful and full of energy all the time.

This place is located between the tendons in the neck, and in particular on the back of the head, It is the hole where the head and the neck unite.

There is the point which in the Chinese acupuncture is called Feng Fu (a shelter from the wind).

The method consists of the following: a man lies on his stomach (or sits) and some ice (approximately 2 × 2 cm) is put on the Feng Fu point(the hole in the back of the head), and hold it for 20 minutes. The ice can be fixed with a bandage, a scarf, etc.

Do it regularly with a 2-3 day breaks, on an empty stomach in the morning and at night, before going to bed. A cold is impossible to occur during this procedure.

You may feel a sense of cold at the beginning, but after 30-40 seconds, you will feel an influx of heat from the point of the action. The first few days You will have a feeling of euphoria in the first few days due to the release of endorphins into the bloodstream.

What is achieved by putting ice on the back of the head, on the Feng Fu point:

Improved sleep
Constant good mood and general vitality
Excellent work of the digestive tract
No more common colds (ice can be used for high fever as well)
Eliminated headaches, toothaches, pains in joints
In particular, the operation on the Feng Fu point helps with the diseases of:

Respiratory organs

Cardiovascular system

Neurological diseases with degenerative changes in the spine

Acute gastrointestinal and sexually transmitted infections

Disorders of the thyroid gland

Arthritis, hypertension and hypotension

Bronchial asthma

Disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract, obesity and malnutrition
Cellulite (especially for the prevention and in the early stage)

Disorders of the menstrual cycle, impotence, frigidity, endocrine infertility

Psycho-emotional disorders, stress, chronic fatigue, depression, insomnia

To speak in harsh terms, the operation on the Feng Fu point Feng Fu does not cure, but returns one to his physiological norm, literally rejuvenates the body, and gives a strong living impulse to the body.

Contraindications: pregnancy, presence of a pacemaker, epilepsy and schizophrenia.

In the Chinese medicine, the body is seen as an energy system, so the energy flow and the functional activity of organs can be affected by massage.

5 Types Of Tummies And How To Get Rid Of Each Of Them

According to Health.com, excess abdominal fat, or what others call “unwanted belly fat,” is a predictor of heart diseases, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and even several cancers. Each of those diseases and conditions affects your health in a negative way and can also become fatal if you don’t take care of that excess belly fat. But in order to take care of it, you must first figure out what type of belly you have. Once you identify that, you can take the next steps to getting rid of it. Below you will find the most common types of bellies and how you can get rid of them.

Providr

1. Alcohol Belly: Nothing can be more soothing than a nice gold alcoholic beverage on a hot summer day. But when one beer turns into another and another, and this becomes a daily routine for you, you’re not doing any favors to your waistline. Psychology Today explains that at 7 calories per gram, alcohol contains nearly twice as much as that, as well as four carbohydrates per gram. The problem here is that the body stores carbohydrates and fat as glycogen (another form of sugar) in the liver and muscle. They add that the body cannot store alcohol, unfortunately, so when consumed, it must be burnt immediately.

To get rid of it, the first thing you might want to do is tone down the drinking. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the 2015-2020 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that men should consume no more than two alcoholic drinks per day, and women should consume no more than one alcoholic drink per day. The second thing, according to Tom Cowen, head personal trainer for Xercise4less, is “to have a state of negative energy balance – burn more calories than you’re consuming,” he told the Daily Star.

2. Post Pregnancy Belly: Granted, after a woman gives birth, there will be some excess fat. But recent research has suggested that the extra weight may not only be from pregnancy, but rather the result of poor lifestyle choices following the pregnancy. A study, which is published in the journal Women’s Health Issues, conducted a study to see if there was an association between excess belly weight and post pregnancy lifestyle choices. The study consisted of over 32,000 women with at least two births in Wisconsin between 2006 and 2013.

What Olga Yakusheva, the study’s lead author, and her colleagues found was that in the study, each woman gained almost two pounds a year because of their age. But what they found troubling is that once their babies became toddlers; the mothers gained a full extra pound annually compared to their childless peers. In a press release with Michigan News, Yakusheva explains why she believes this occurred, “Mothers tend to put the needs of their children first, so they might not be exercising or taking care of themselves,” she said. “It might also be little things like finishing the food on their child’s plate or spending more time sitting with their kids reading or watching a movie.”

To get rid of that excess fat, Dr. Kara Mohr, an exercise psychologist, and fitness expert, told Fitness Magazine: “I would suggest increasing the intensity of your cardio workouts, making sure you include intervals (alternating walking with fast walking or sprinting). And be sure your strength training includes combination moves that work multiple muscles including the core (plank rows, push-ups, squat with military press, etc) rather than single muscle groups.”

3. Stress Belly: The Daily Mail reports that a stressful life could contribute to excess weight in the abdominal area. They spoke to health expert Jackie Wicks, co-author of new book Cheats & Eats: Lifestyle Programme, and she explained to them that cortisol, which is also called the stress hormone, becomes too high for a lengthy period of time, and can increase the amount of fat stored in the stomach. So the key to losing that excess stomach fat caused by stress is to try and destress yourself. Wicks recommends taking a hot bath on a regular basis. She explains that they have been shown to lower cortisol levels. She also adds that going for a walk every day not only helps burn calories but can also be a great way to clear your mind, the Daily Mail reported.

4. Hormonal Belly: According to Rachel Attard, a certified personal trainer and nutritionist, a hormonal imbalance can contribute to weight gain. She explains how estrogen and progesterone can cause weight gain. The first point she makes is that high estrogen levels can increase insulin, which can lead to sugar cravings. This is why you see many women eat chocolate during PMS. Another point she makes is that high levels of estrogen have the ability to cause more fatty tissue growth. In most cases, she states that the excess fat is usually around the stomach area because estrogen also dictates where the body will distribute fat.

The last point that she makes is that a hormonal imbalance can cause difficulties with appetite and sleep. Progesterone can calm the brain, while estrogen gives off a more exciting response. So, women who have high estrogen levels find it difficult to sleep at night, which disrupts leptin, the hormone responsible for your appetite. The more sleep deprived you are, the more hungry you may become, Attard says. To lower your estrogen levels, Livestrong recommends eating carrots. According to Natalie Ledesma, MS, RD, CSO, at the University of California, who spoke with Livestrong, carrots contain beta-carotene, which is effective in reducing the growth of estrogen receptor positive and negative.

5. Bloated Belly: Kate Patton, a registered dietitian at Cleveland Clinic, told Health.com that eating too many processed foods can be the reason why people are gaining belly fat instead of losing it. She said, “Refined grains like white bread, crackers, and chips, as well as refined sugars in sweetened drinks and desserts, increase inflammation in our bodies, belly fat is associated with inflammation, so eating too many processed foods will hinder your ability to lose belly fat.” Patton suggests that people consume foods like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains because they are full of antioxidants and contain anti-inflammatory properties that can help prevent or remove belly fat.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, excess abdominal fat is a key predictor of heart disease, diabetes and several types of cancer. But you shouldn’t get rid of your belly fat just to protect your health; you should also do it because it makes you feel good as an individual. Restoring confidence in yourself is also a great way to ensure you stay healthy. Just remember, losing weight, especially in your belly is not an easy process, so do not get discouraged and stay motivated and you’ll achieve your goals.

The Fruit And Protein Diet For An Effective And Fast Way To Lose Weight

With the temperature steadily rising and the sleeves getting progressively shorter it is important to get into the best shape of our lives. Given that most people can probably lose a little bit of fat and gain some muscle, it is no surprise that new diet fads are always coming out. While calorie and portion control are the fundamentals of any weight loss or weight gain goals, simple yet sustainable diets can sometimes do the trick. In a report by ABC News, they revealed that the quality and type of food you consume is just as important as counting calories.

Providr

Maya Feller, who is a dietitian from New York said in an interview with ABC News: ‘the takeaway is that the quality of what you eat is incredibly important. You may or may not need to eat an 1,800-calorie diet, but what you need is a diet that is based on whole and minimally processed foods without an excess of added sugars, salts, and saturated fats.’ That is why Maya suggests a diet that is rich in whole foods and filled with fruits and vegetables.

A report by Livestrong suggested the use of a fruit and protein diet since it provides dieters with energy for daily activities and weight training. They explain that protein is a nutritional component required to help muscle tissue recover and repair after weight training. On top of that, fruit provides good carbs for the right kind of sugar-fueled energy. When you combine these two foods along with some vegetables, you get a low-calorie diet that helps you lose weight and build muscle. The beauty of this diet is that it is inherently filled with nutritious, whole foods.

Protein coming from animal, beans, nuts and/or soy products is mostly natural and fruits which are seeded are almost always from the earth. The article went on to stipulate the specific type of protein that dieters should try to ingest. They explain that when choosing proteins for a diet, avoid fats. Foods like red meat, milk and eggs have high amounts of saturated fats, which are bad for cardiovascular health. You should choose lean meats like skinless chicken and turkey. When it comes to fish, which naturally contains omega-3 fatty acids along with protein, you should choose mackerel, tuna, trout or salmon.

Shutterstock

Fruits, while considered a carb, tend to be a good source of energy. They are also low in calories and are almost always natural. Fruits like apricots, melons, peaches and tangerines are full of healthy sugars. These are good for snacking in between meals. Grapefruit is a very low-calorie fruit full of vitamins and nutrients. Grapes and cherries are also good for a portable, healthy snack. Bananas are beneficial for their potassium content.

Shutterstock

And of course, any good diet for the purpose of weight loss needs to include some form of exercise. According to a study from the United States National Library, the increase in muscle mass causes an increase in metabolism which in turn helps the dieter burn more calories. Thus a focus on strength training and gaining muscle will greatly increase one’s caloric output. The Livestrong article explained that cardio exercise is the way to go if you want to burn calories. If you went over your caloric intake target, a good cardio exercise can burn all that excess off. To top it off, you can add resistance training to increase your muscle mass. Muscle burns off more calories even when you’re just sitting!

And according to the Harvard School of Public Health, ‘there isn’t one “perfect” diet for everyone, owing to individual differences in genes and lifestyle,’ but the data doesn’t lie. Harvard stated: ‘“a calorie is a calorie” is an oft-repeated dietary slogan, and not overeating is indeed an important health measure. Rather than focusing on calories alone, however, emerging research shows that quality is also key in determining what we should eat and what we should avoid in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Rather than choosing foods based only on caloric value, think instead about choosing high-quality, healthy foods, and minimizing low-quality foods.’ So while many diets have grown prominent over the past few months, a diet rich in whole and nutritious foods such as protein and fruits is essential not only for weight loss goals but also for health and longevity.

Top 5 Moves to Flatten The Lower Belly

Muffin tops, beer bellies, lower-belly pouches. Chances are you’ve looked down and made eye-contact with at least one of these unwanted physical fitness hosts. And if you’re here, it means you’re ready to evict them from your body for good.

The first thing you should know is that there’s no such a thing as “lower abs.” Fitness Builder explains that the upper and lower abs are actually one muscle called the Rectus Abdominis, and that years of infomercials have spread the myth that you can “sculpt” the lower half of your belly by just paying $29.99 in six easy installments.

So, if you want to tone those mythical “lower abs”, you better be ready to put your whole abdominal wall—and your whole body—to work!

“When I train, I don’t necessarily separate body parts. I don’t separate things into, for example, biceps and triceps, I go more for the functional-type training,” says Bobby Maximus. Bobby is an MMA fighter, strength coach and co-author of Maximus Body: The Physical and Mental Training Plan That Shreds Your Body, Builds Serious Strength, and Makes You Unstoppably Fit. “That’s what I recommend to people unless you’re in bodybuilding. I just do exercises that target the entire area and have a functional application to the real world.”

Courtesy of Bobby Maximus

Bobby believes that if you’re serious about changing the shape of your body so it’s more athletic overall, you need to look at it as a whole rather than compartmentalizing the way you exercise. “It works better that way,” he says. “People who do these isolation exercises, they never progress or get that six-pack that they really want, so why keep doing it? Sitting in front of the TV and doing 100 crunches is just not gonna work. Or trying a little ab machine. You want real athletic movement so you can achieve an athletic body.”

So we asked Bobby what exercises he recommends for people who really want to engage those problematic abs. Here are his top 5 moves.

1. Plank Hold (also called a “Pushup Position Plank”). For this exercise, you’ll want to assume the pushup position, with your arms and torso completely straight. Then just hold the position. “One of the common errors people make with this,” says Bobby, “Is that they try to hang on. What you want to do is to make it as difficult as possible by pushing your feet and hands through the ground and keeping your midsection as tight as possible. So flex your abs the entire time.”

2. Feet-to-Hands. To do this, you need to hang from a pullup bar with an overhand, shoulder-width grip. Then raise your legs, bringing your feet to your hands. Pause and lower your legs to the starting position. “It really helps that when you start this movement with your legs, slightly pull yourself up and engage your lats,” says Bobby, “And then lean back so your feet can come to your hands at the top of the pullup bar position.”

3. Knees-to-elbows. Hang from a pullup bar with your body straight. Bring your knees up to your elbows, tucking your pelvis. Then slowly lower your legs. “It’s basically an easier version of the feet-to-hands exercise,” says Bobby, “You hang from a pullup bar, your body straight. Then, you’re gonna pull up ever so slightly, and then you’re gonna pull up your knees to your elbows.”

4. Curlup. First, lie with your back and feet flat on the floor, your knees bent 90 degrees and your arms down by your sides. Then, curl your torso up, so your shoulders lift off the floor, keeping your neck and head straight. Try to reach your fingertips two inches forward. Pause, then lower yourself back down. “It’s essentially like a really strict crunch,” says Bobby.

5. Leg Raise Hold. Start by laying down on your back, your hands at your side and your body straight. Raise your feet a few inches off the floor while keeping your legs straight. Hold the position for as long as you can.

Experts Agree That Soda Is One Of The Most Harmful Beverages

When we become parched, it’s easy to turn to a nice cold soda that is filled with sugar, caffeine, sweeteners and high amounts of calories. It’s refreshing and will quench your thirst, but is it doing any positive favors to your body? I had the pleasure of speaking to Dr. James Gerber, Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at Western States Chiropractic College (WSCC) in Portland, Oregon, who serves on the adjunct faculty of the University of Bridgeport Nutrition Institute and the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, regarding the soda beverage.

The first question I asked Dr. Gerber was what he thought the biggest danger soda poses to the body. He answered:”The biggest danger is the calories, soda drinks are a significant contributor to the obesity epidemic.” Dr. Gerber would be correct in his hypothesis; according to a 20-year study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, men and women who increased their sugary drink intake by one 12-ounce serving per day gained more weight over time. For the study, 120,877 U.S. men and women who did not have any chronic diseases or obesity were evaluated from 1986 to 2006. Each participant was evaluated based on their lifestyle factors and weight change every four years. Results showed that every four years, participants gained an average of 3.35 lb and sugar-sweetened beverages contributed to 1 lb of that average weight.

I mentioned this study to Dr. Gerber and I asked him what weight gain and soda have in common with each other. He mentioned: “Liquid calories are easy to overdo compared to calories from solid food.” After he mentioned this I thought, could there be other negative aspects to overdrinking soda? According to Rochelle Rosian, MD, there could be a connection between brittle bones and soda beverages, the Cleveland Clinic reports. Dr. Rosian explains that one of the reasons there could be an association is because most soda beverages contain phosphoric acid, which has the ability to leach calcium out of our bones. Also, the caffeine intake in these beverages has been linked to osteoporosis. However, there is still not enough evidence to make a definitive claim on this.

Many assessments and studies are coming from the Framingham Osteoporosis Research BMD. One assessment consisted of 1413 females and 1125 men in 2006. Researchers discovered that consuming soda actually decreased the BMD significantly for women. In addition, Linda K. Massey, Ph.D., RD, a professor of human nutrition at Washington State University, mentioned to WebMD: “Excess phosphorus promotes calcium loss from the body when calcium intake is low.”

After discussing this study, I asked Dr. Gerber what amount of soda would he recommend to someone who consumes high caffeinated soda beverages. He answered, “I would recommend that they drink zero amounts, but if it’s become a habit, I would say 8 ounces would be alright as long as it’s supported by a healthy diet.” One of the reasons Dr. Gerber said zero is because of a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The study tracked the health of about 90,000 women over two decades. Researchers found that women who consumed two servings of sugary beverages a day had a 40% higher risk of heart attacks or death from heart disease than women who rarely drank sugary beverages.

Another reason Dr. Gerber was extremely against people consuming sugary beverages that are high in caffeine is because of the association with diabetes. A study published in the journal Jama set out to discover if there was an association between the two. So researchers conducted a cohort analysis from 1991 to 1999 among women who were in the Nurses’ Health Study ll. The diabetes analysis included over 91,000 women who were free from diabetes and other chronic diseases in 1991. The results showed that women who had a stable consumption pattern of sugar-sweetened beverages saw no weight gain, but the weight gain over a 4-year period was highest among women who increased their sugar-sweetened soft drink consumption from one or fewer per week to one or more per day.

Those who are looking to stop drinking soda and eliminate it from their diet might want to replace it with water. The Harvard School of Public Health states that water helps restore fluid lost through breathing, metabolism, sweating, and when waste is removed. Not only will it quench your thirst, but it will hydrate your body and reduce the risk of becoming fatigued. The Institute of Medicine says that an adequate intake of water per day is 125 ounces (15 cups) for men and 91 ounces (11 cups) for women.
